12 Years of Business Lessons in 12 Minutes (OK more like 5 mins)

Once an entrepreneur, always an entrepreneur.

Once a marketer, always a marketer.

Looking back, in not only my own life but in the lives of almost every other entrepreneur I am privileged to meet, there is a common thread that connects us all – and you know what that is? Its the reoccurring story of how they where “that kid” that always had a knack for how people work and how to get the resources they needed for the projects they were determined to complete – often with the dismay of hard-working parents that firmly believed they should sit down, sit still, and do there math homework assignment.

If your grinning in remembrance of how “you showed them”

than please accept my virtual high-five and bright grin back.

Here are 2 classic ways “we showed ‘em” Back to memory lane – eh.

1. Approximate age em 3-6 years old. You figured today is a holiday and its hot, really hot. What do my friends and I always want when its hot? – I know an icey cool drink. AH HA, smart mini-entrepreneur munchkin to the rescue. You round up the other neighborhood kids during the smothering 4th of July parade, shack up a 10 cent per cup lemonade stand with a crooked sign and watered down pixie drinks from the 4 hour old ice cubes that melted. Biz Stats — 500 visitors, 350 no’s 150 yeses = $15 richer.

2. Approximate age em 7-12 years old. You figured out that Mr. Thomson is occupied 10+ hours a day soooo he doesn’t have time and he is a frugal saver (tight wad that uses his coffee filters twice) soooo he doesn’t like to spend a lot of money. AH HA, smart mini-entrepreneur kid to the rescue, a few supplies wrangled up, walking your stubby legs up to 20 different homes on 5 Cul-de-sacs with the same pitch  “hi ah ma’am/sir I got some paint brushes and paint and I can fix up your door for just $20 in 15 minutes, whadda ya say?” Biz Stats — 20 houses, 15 no’s, 5 yeses = $100 richer.

For me…

My entrepreneurial journey began at the age of 11 creating the flyer “jobs, jobs, jobs” What was your story (tell me in the comments below)

The 12 Lessons you’ve been waiting for…. drum roll, please

  • Your first business most likely won’t be the one that you “hit it big with” – try business shot number 3rd,4th,5th or even 10th
  • You can be a “successful” business person before you personally have a check written to your name for your first 20K month
  • Relationships * TRUMP * tricks and tools any day
  • There ain’t no – Automated – money system that you pay for and money comes popping out. But, there is a thing called effort = results aka do the work
  • You don’t give yourself enough credit – your your biggest critic
  • Ugly, tacky, messy, and “unprofessional” direct response marketing kicks pretty, shiny, and perfectly designed marketings ass all day long
  • You are NOT your customer… and yet you ARE your customer
  • Better to admit your “I suck at” points than to pretend you know it all
  • Never let “bad” grades, low test scores and lack of Bachelors diploma keep you from your deserved wealth and big dreams
  • Your Story sells yet don’t BE your story
  • The whole over-promising strategy to get more customers and sales ONLY works in the short term, and sabotages you in the long term
  • There is no easy way, your not going to find a one-quick fix magic pill, (and honestly would you really want something that easy – we grow the most when we are OUT of our comfort zone aka when we are challenged as hell)

Aloha all. I love and respect all my fellow entrepreneurs!

Make Money Online Now – The 4 Important Steps Others Teaching This Subject Conveniently Left Out

The best thing you can do to make money online now is to get REAL about what it takes to make money online now.

Making money, whether online or offline, is indeed simple once you get the snowball up over the hill and the system cranking, it is also quite a steep incline when you are first learning.

Often folks come into the internet money making industry as a newbie or with some success in another profession and think they can run 10 miles before they have even run 1 mile (aka trying to skip over to advanced internet marketing strategies before learning, applying and mastering internet marketing 101)

I know this sucks to hear but, there are no shortcuts and you don’t get something for nothing.

It doesn’t help that there are thousands of offers, courses, business opportunities and “the next best strategy” popping up all over your computer screen daily like hot cakes to convince you to steer off your pre-planned focus and get tasks done path.

If you ask the most successful online business owners (and by successful I mean someone that is around for more than 90 days) what they did to make a lot of money on the internet they will all tell you this

1. I created marketing
2. I measured and tracked my marketing
3. I re-tweaked and improved my marketing
4. I did the first three steps over and over and over again

The easiest way to make money online now is to promote a product and system that is already in place so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel.

Building Passive Income – Teaching You the Bare Minimums

Building Passive Income is what every business owner, investor, and network marketer gets wet just hearing about (sorry I know that’s a little graphic) But in all seriousness passive income is what everybody wants master once they see how exhausting trading time for dollars can be in a job or yes even in a big business.

The purpose of building passive income is to do the work ONCE using technology as leverage and let it pay you over and over and over again – sounds great eh?

One thing I would like to point out to all of you who think that you have “the best product or service” studies show that people are NOT loyal to products, they are loyal to PEOPLE or to be even more specific they are loyal to the feeling that you give them. So the name of the game is building solid trustworthy relationships = building passive income.

The way to do that is by adding value to peoples lives. You can do this in two ways:

1. by providing relief from some sort of pain in a person’s life
2. by providing more pleasure in a person’s life

Passive income also entails that if you are to get paid again and again then people must be buying from you again and again – in the business world we call this reoccurring revenue or a continuity program. This is most commonly used in a monthly format but can also be used bi-annually or annually. It’s important that your product or service is something that your customer CAN’T live without – therefore reducing the refund rate.

Some examples of reoccurring revenue are:

- monthly magazine subscription (ie: cosmo)
- monthly cell phone bill
- annual membership fees (ie: whale foundation)
- monthly software service (ie: keyword tool)
- monthly business services (ie: merchant account)
- monthly gaming (ie: World of Warcraft)
- monthly service (ie: dating profiles)

It’s important to do research in your chosen niche and to listen and take note of what your customers are unhappy with – an easy way to do this is to go to a public forum where your customer can bitch with other customers and see what continuing complaints come up. Want an even easier way check this out, look at a potential competitors ripoffreport.com responses or the better business bureau files.

Once you settle on a niche that you feel has a need that you can fill, the next step is to get your message and product or service out there for as many eyes balls to see aka your marketing strategy. The best and most cost effective way (due to your ability to track your results – VERY important) to do this in my opinion is to use the internet via Google pay per click or even better once you have an offer that is converting ramp up your traffic with paid media I’d recommend buying a course on this topic before you dare tip-toe into that ball game. I personally liked http://www.NewEconomyTraffic.com you can manage your way through it less than 3 hours.

Lastly and my personal favorite model is the high ticket direct sales model. it’s the easiest and quickest way to building passive income you just do the marketing part. This is a hybrid model to the old school network marketing model where you need to recruit a team the size of a small army in order to make enough money to live off of. Your passive income is anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000 depending on which company you choose to work with. The best marketing tool that I have found out of the literally hundreds I’ve looked at can be found here http://www.NewEconomySecrets.com

Introducing the Hybrid Hippie – Wealth + Earth Consciousness

So, while a good handful of people assume I am a green, tree-hugging, hippie

because I live in Maui Hawaii and I like nudey beaches….

…I am here to inform all you haters (I’ve always wanted to use that word in one of my blog posts) that unlike most hippie’s living in the woods I firmly believe in creating wealth as a tool to aid in the total abundance factor and accelerate the process of bringing sustainability to those that want it.

Oh by the way for those of you that must know, although I am not against the green you smoke (and believe me when I say there is an over-abundance of maui wowie everywhere I go on this Island) I am just not that into it, nor do I think the entire planet would be saved if we just planted more of it.

The “bigger vision” that Jayson and I have for building our own business and personal wealth is to be apart of building a totally sustainable Green City here in Hawaii and a shared investment into a Green community with at least 100 acres for our tribe. (I hear Oprah is in the running to compete with me for the land I got my eye on)

Thus, let me introduce you to the new and improved label that you may call me (since there is no getting around the human condition of identifying and labeling people, places and things)

drum roll please…. Miss KD is what you may call a hybrid hippie

Notice exhibit 1. the OHW (old hippie way) and the HHW (hybrid hippie way)

old hippie way

1. Hitch hiking to save money (or beg for food money), prevent another car exhaust from poisoning the planet, and avoid supporting the wicked government’s quest for car gasoline (oil)

hybrid hippie way

1. A car made from recycled parts, that runs on H20, costs a pretty penny to purchase (as of 2010) and has infamous stickers on it that say things like “all one” “keep the country, country” “no farms, no food” or “New York , Tokyo, London, Hana”

This is just one small example (more where that came from – bookmark this blog and come back, ya hear)

In the comments below tell me your Hybrid Hippie Ideas

aloha.

Best Businesses to Start in 2010 – 6 Guidelines to Follow

First and foremost, I applaud the fact that you are looking for a business to start this year instead of a job to work at. I’d also like to point out that the hardest part for most people when it comes to starting a business is the starting part – so I highly recommend that do your due diligence and then do yourself a favor and do something, ANYTHING to get started this year. You can take one first starting step by printing this article out and writing your notes on it along with doing the simple exercises.

6 Guidelines to Follow for the Best Businesses to Start in 2010…

1. A buying market for this business
- the rule of thumb is to get into the area of just enough competition but not to much competition

Example of a market that’s to narrow…
- organic sandalwood shampoo for short hair cats

A niche this narrow makes it almost impossible to create a healthy profitable business due to limited number of interested buyers and product price point gives at most a $10 profit margin

Example of a market that’s to broad…
- weight loss

A niche this broad makes it almost impossible to get any market share due to high costs of advertising competition and major brand awareness already in place

2. Availability of knowledge and resources needed to be successful in my chosen business
- If your going to start a business Djing at large corporate parties you’d better make sure you can find and learn from others that have already created success in that market.

If you have your pick at going across the land mine first or last, you want to go last, so you can watch where the people ahead of you got stuck, hurt, and lost. While it may seem exciting to be the first person into a business model, you will inevitably waste a great deal of time and pay a costly price. Skip the excitement and be humble enough to learn from somebody’s whose BTDT (been there done that) in your desired business.

3. Ability to capitalize on the E-commerce boom
- Lets face it ALL business is headed to the internet

Steer clear of businesses that have no idea what Google or social networking is! Frankly if you do not have a growing E-commerce presence now, in 10 years your business will be obsolete.

Absolute online must have check list:

( ) A dynamic website with a shopping cart feature
(”dynamic” means you update it not your techy web guy)

( ) A blog
(WordPress is your best bet)

( ) A social media presence on the big 4
(facebook, myspace, you tube, linked in)

( ) A merchant account
(to process credit cards and pay pal accounts)

( ) An auto responder
(aweber, Icontact, or get response are the easiest to use)

4. A proven plug and play system
- another way of putting it is called a scalable business model or a franchise – in other words a system that is already in place and is easy enough that anyone can plug into regardless of there prior experience.

The beauty of buying into a franchise model is that you don’t have to reinvent the wheel, you get to hit the ground running as soon as you go through the companies training.

5. Team support
- Team support is code for a mastermind or a group of people that can offer suggestions, give feedback and listen to your struggles as you build your business.

The entrepreneurs journey can be a lonely one so its crucial that you find an outlet of other like-minded individuals to connect with.

In franchisees they usually have annual meetings for all franchise owners to get together and discuss what’s working and what’s not in regards to employees, new product ideas, marketing and selling points.

On the internet side of things make sure the business already has active discussion boards (forums) and a social networking site (ning community)

6. A high profit margin
- OK so can we both agree that we are in business to make money, or should I say to make A LOT of money.

You can approach this in a few ways:
- get into a market where the affluent person buys
- sell a main product that profits at least $100 per sale
- choose a smaller amount of higher quality, higher paying customers over a large quantity of low paying customers

A great business to start in 2010 is a business that you START – get started here – http://www.NewEconomySecrets.com.

Law of Attraction For Business – 5 Practical Ways to Apply This Tool Each Week

Law of Attraction for Business in its essence means setting aside time to choose the outcome you would like to achieve in business.

2 Essentials to Remember in Order to Sky Rocket your Results while using the Law of Attraction for Business….

1. The more specific you are with your requests the more targeted your outcome will be

Example of an unspecific request: I’d like to make more money in my business

Law of Attraction delivers: A client that takes you out to dinner, You get your movie ticket for free via a special coupon, Your partner buys you the gift you were saving up to buy, a company gives you a complementary pass to a course that costs $2,000.

Money has many forms outside of cash and debit cards.

These are ALL examples of Law of Attraction delivering more money to your pocket book without actually giving you cash directly. Since we build businesses to make money to buy the things we would like and need for our personal lives and our businesses the universe perceives unlimited possibilities for delivering what your really asking for.

Example of a specific request (hint: use time deadlines): I would like to make an additional $1,000 per month or more in my business within 6 months or less

Law of Attraction delivers: New paying customers, an employee that can do two jobs for the price of one, A new tax strategy that saves you $6,000 at the end of the year

The universe likes to take the path of least resistance to deliver your request as quickly as you speak it into existence

2. The more EMOTION you can put into your request the faster your results

Example of little emotion: I want to find a great business partner

Law of Attraction delivers: a business partner with 10 vices you can’t put up with, a business partner that lives on the other side of the world, a business partner that sees themselves as “great”

When your flimsy in your asking you get flimsy delivered back

Example of great emotion: I feel the joy, confidence and satisfaction I receive from partnering with a savvy multi-faceted entrepreneur that is driven to change the world one business improvement after the other and is passionate about working with me

Law of Attraction delivers: you and your new business partner the feelings you both seek

Now its your turn, the quicker you take action the faster you will get what you want.

Doable Action Steps:

Step 1.

Thinking is where it all begins… Think in present tense as if all these scenarios were ALREADY happening

+ how your ideal employees or sub contractors act, talk and work?
+ what kind of relationship you have with your vendors?
+ who is your customer? what are they into? how much money do they make? what skills do they already possess before finding your product or service? what are there greatest struggles? what brings them the most joy?
+ what your customers experience is when they do business with you?

Step 2.

Writing Put your internal thoughts into external form by writing down what answers, solutions and outcomes you create from your brainstorm session

Step 3.

Read Aloud After writing read your piece silently and then aloud at least 3 times. We all know that repetition is how you memorize and get good at anything.

Step 4.

Sharing Once you convince yourself of your plan it solidifies it to share it with someone else (preferably someone with constructive, positive feedback)

Step 5.

Receiving This may sound self-explanatory but 9 out of 10 times people stand in there own way. They self-sabotage there outcome by not dealing with internal conflict. If your results aren’t showing up go back and ask yourself what belief am I holding that is keeping me from achieving the success in business that I deserve.

Quick example: I want to a be a millionaire

Internal conflict preventing millionaire status: rich people are greedy and overworked

Feeling of becoming greedy and overworked is a stronger set of feelings than wanting to become a millionaire therefore

Remember the strongest feeling ALWAYS wins

A side note for those that feel this stuff is all new age hocus pocus…

When you truly desire an outcome with all your being you put your negative, condescending thoughts aside and you take ACTION on what you learn and you are also open to fact that any skill (including using the law of attraction for business) takes PRACTICE to get good at

The very fact that you read this page is law of attraction doing its work.

Next steps check out http://www.NewEconomySecrets.com for the most cutting edge information of law of attraction for business
